Learn more about our cord blood products
What methods or tools help maintain sterile‑field integrity when collecting cord blood during a cesarean delivery?
The Pall Medical Cord Blood Sterile Collection Bag can be used during vaginal or cesarean section deliveries because both the fluid pathway and the exterior are sterile.
What activities are supported by the cord blood products?
1. For the collection of umbilical cord blood from either a vaginal birth or within the sterile field of a cesarean section
2. For processing and freezing 25 mL of cryopreserved, concentrated cord blood stem cells by the method developed at the New York Blood Center.
3. For the long-term storage of 25 mL of cryopreserved, concentrated blood components. The freezing bag has been designed to assure a homogenous, controlled freezing rate for maximum cell viability
4.For the thaw/washing and subsequent infusion of previously frozen cord blood stem cells . developed by the New York Blood Center.1, 2* This two-bag set is designed to achieve a slow asymptotic reduction in osmotic pressure of the cryoprotected white cells to the appropriate level for transfusion
What is a sterile exterior and why is it important?
A sterile exterior allows the collection bag to be placed into a surgical field without adding risk of contamination from the exterior of the collection bag. Cord blood collected during a cesarean section occurs in a sterile surgical environment. Pall Medical’s Cord Blood Sterile Collection Bag can be placed directly into this field.
Why do I sometimes see moisture on the surface of the internal packaging?
The 791-08 is processed by a validate steam sterilization process. This is a wet process with no guarantee that all wetness will evaporate at the end of the cycle.
